Dutch Pay User Guide

"Going Dutch" or "Dutch Pay" refers to the practice where each person pays for their own share of the expenses. In modern times, it has become an essential etiquette for fair spending in dates, gatherings, and travel.

๐Ÿ†š Simple Split vs. Detailed Split

Simple Split
  • Pros: Fast and simple calculation
  • Cons: Cannot reflect individual menu differences
  • Best for: Shared lunch menus, cafes, taxi fares
Detailed Split
  • Pros: Accurately calculates who ate what
  • Cons: Requires item input (solved by scanning!)
  • Best for: Drinking parties, travel groceries, expensive meals

๐Ÿ“‹ Usage Scenarios

Scenario 1: Drinkers vs. Non-drinkers

At a dinner, A and B drank alcohol while C only had soda?
In 'Detailed Split', assign the alcohol cost only to A and B, and split the food items among everyone. This ensures the fairest settlement.

Scenario 2: Late Arrivals

A friend who joined only for the 2nd round should be excluded from the 1st round bill.
In this case, calculate receipts separately, or use 'Detailed Split' to include that friend only for the 2nd round items.

Scenario 3: Travel Expense Manager

Collected 10 receipts during the trip? Too hard to type them all?
Use the 'Receipt Scan' feature to snap photos sequentially. AI will organize dates, store names, and items automatically.

๐Ÿ’ก Tips & Know-how

  • Rounding: Instead of splitting to the exact penny, rounding to the nearest convenient unit makes bank transfers easier for everyone.
  • Share Evidence: Instead of just asking for money, share the link or image generated by the app. Providing details reduces misunderstandings.
  • Apply Discounts: If you received a discount/coupon, use the 'Deduction' feature. Enter the saved amount and select 'Everyone' to share the benefit.

โœจ Key Features

  • Simple Split: Automatically calculates per-person amount by entering total amount and number of people
  • Detailed Split: Calculate accurately by itemizing each item
  • Receipt Scan: AI automatically recognizes items and prices from receipt photos for easy use
  • Deduction: Give benefits to friends who provided venue, drove, etc. (deducted amount is distributed among other members)
  • Share: Share calculation results in various styles! (Image saving is also available)

๐Ÿ’ก Usage Tips

  • Click on item name or price to edit directly
  • Use the lock feature to prevent accidental edits
  • Recognition rate may decrease if there is light reflection or poor image quality when scanning receipts
  • Easily share results with friends using the share feature

๐Ÿ“– Detailed Guide (Detailed Split)

  1. Set People: First, add people who will participate in the split (`+ Add` button). Each person is color-coded for easy identification.
  2. Add Items:
    • Manual Input: Enter item name and price, then select who consumed it.
    • Receipt Scan: Take a photo of the receipt, and AI will automatically list the items.
  3. Assign People: Select who ate each item. If multiple people are selected, the price is automatically split 1/N.
  4. Check Results: Once all items are entered, the final amount for each person is displayed at the bottom.

๐Ÿ’ก Bill Splitting Etiquette

1. Common Scenarios
  • Dining Out: Even splitting is easiest, but use 'Detailed Split' if orders vary significantly (e.g., alcohol vs. no alcohol).
  • Travel: Use our receipt scanner to easily manage shared travel expenses managed by one person.
2. Courtesies
  • Pay Promptly: Settle debts within 24 hours.
  • Rounding: Don't quibble over pennies; round to convenience.
  • Gratitude: Always thank the organizer for managing the bill.

How to Settle Shared Bills Cleanly

A fair split reflects who shared which items. If someone skipped drinks or arrived late, itemized splitting is fairer.

Worked example: Four people, a KRW 87,000 dinner

  1. Even split: 87,000 รท 4 = 21,750 each
  2. Itemized: food 72,000 shared by all four, drinks 15,000 shared by three
  3. Food: 72,000 รท 4 = 18,000; drinks: 15,000 รท 3 = 5,000

Itemized result: the three drinkers pay 23,000 each and the non-drinker pays 18,000. The total is still 87,000.

Before you rely on the result

  • Separate personal and shared items first.
  • Decide how coupons and points are applied.
  • Share final amounts before anyone transfers money.
  • Receipt photos may show personal data or partial card numbers, so review them before sharing.
